Giannis Sina Ougku Antetokounmpo was born in Athens in 1994. The third oldest of five to Nigerian immigrants Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo, Giannis comes from the quintessential basketball family. His brothers Thanasis and Kostas play for the NBA's Bucks and Lakers, respectively. Giannis's youngest brother Alexander currently plies his trade at Domenican High School in Milwaukee. Before being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012, he appeared in 26 games for Filathlitikos AO of the Greek second division and averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 62.1 percent from two-point field goal range en route to a Greek League All-Star Game nod. Giannis has represented Greece at the highest level of international competition, participating in the FIBA World Cup in 2014 and 2019. In the latter tournament, Antetokounmpo averaged 14.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in five games, leading his country to the tournament's second round. Giannis has been active in the charitable matters, donating food at the Milwaukee Community Center and hosting charity tournaments with his brothers in Greece. In 2011-12, he participated with the senior men's Greek B Basket League (third division) for the Filathlitikos team. Despite signing a four-year deal with CAI Zaragoza of the Spanish League in 2012, the forward stayed with Filathlitikos for the entire season. The 18-year-old played in 26 games and provided 9.5 points on 46.4 percent from the field with 5.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 blocks. He also played in the 2013 Greek League All-Star Game as a special selection by the coaches. The forward would compete in the 2013 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and averaged 8.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 10 games for Team Greece. Antetokounmpo then made himself available for that year's Draft.
