  • Analysis:

For most of the last two decades, going to New York City to select a top-10 player in the NBA Draft was an annual pilgrimage for members of the L.A. Clippers front office. In 2005-06, the team bucked the trend and enjoyed the best season in franchise history since moving up the coast from San Diego to Los Angeles. The success didn't last, as injuries to superior post man Elton Brand and emerging fancy passing Shaun Livingston derailed the Clippers' 2006-07 and '07-08 seasons.

There are questions swirling around STAPLES Center's other residents. Mainly, Will Brand and/or Maggette be traded?; Will Livingston be healthy?; and, What is the team's biggest need that it can address with the No. 7 pick? With this year's Draft featuring two can't miss picks at the top, followed by a second tier of three to four sure-to-be studs, the Clips find themselves in unchartered waters. On the plus side, if their recent Draft history is any indication of what's in store for this year, they should be in good shape. L.A. drafted Al Thornton with the No. 14 pick in 2007 and the forward went on to be one of five players named to the T-Mobile All-Rookie First Team.

    From The Media:

"The Clippers, who were slotted sixth heading into the lottery, fell to the seventh overall selection after they were bumped by Chicago.

From that position, they probably will evaluate a number of guards, including Indiana's Eric Gordon, UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Texas' D.J. Augustin."
