Redd scores 25 in Milwaukee's win over Spurs
    By AP Sports Writer

SAN ANTONIO(AP) Michael Redd had 25 points and 10 rebounds, and the Milwaukee Bucks hung on for a 100-98 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night when Tim Duncan missed a layup with 3.8 seconds to go.

Luke Ridnour scored 21 and Andrew Bogut added 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Bucks, who won for the sixth time in eight games and snapped San Antonio's five-game winning streak.

Duncan, who faked past Bogut to get open for the last layup try, scored 22 points. Michael Finley made eight of 10 shots and had 20 points for the Spurs, while Tony Parker had 19 points and 10 assists.

The Bucks led by 11 with 2:31 left in the third quarter when Bogut scored on his second layup in less than two minutes.

But the Spurs scored 10 of the first 12 points of the fourth quarter and took an 84-82 lead with 7:23 left on Roger Mason's 3-pointer.

The Spurs led 88-84 with 6:33 left after Manu Ginobili stripped Ridnour, and Parker sent a pass up to Mason for a dunk on the fast break.

But Milwaukee came back down the floor with Ridnour's 3-pointer to cut it to one, and the Bucks took the lead on Bogut's dunk off a pass from Richard Jefferson with 5:29 to go.

The Bucks went up by three on Redd's drive with 4:22 left.

But Mason's 3 with 9 seconds left cut it to 100-98, and the Bucks were called for a 5-second violation on the inbounds pass.

That gave Duncan an opportunity to tie the game with a layup in the middle of the lane, but he missed.

Duncan, along with Matt Bonner, got an early hook from Spurs coach Gregg Popovich after San Antonio's interior defense allowed three dunks, a tip-in and a layup in the first 5 minutes. They were pulled at the 7:05 mark in favor of Kurt Thomas and rookie free agent Anthony Tolliver as Milwaukee jumped out to a 17-7 lead.

The Bucks' front line of Jefferson, Luc Mbah a Moute and Bogut opened 7-of-8, and Milwaukee started with a 14-0 advantage in points in the paint before Parker finally got a short shot for San Antonio when he stole a pass from Charlie Villanueva and drove in for an easy layup to cut the Bucks' 10-point lead to 23-20 with 2:14 to go in the first quarter.

But Redd went 3-for-3 and made a pair of free throws to score the last eight points in the quarter for the Bucks, who took a 31-26 lead into the second quarter.

They scored the first five in the quarter - this time all from Villanueva - to go ahead 36-26. Villanueva scored on a three-point play, and he followed that with a dunk after grabbing an offensive rebound on Charlie Bell's miss.

But the Spurs outscored the Bucks 10-1 during a stretch of 1:55, and San Antonio cut the lead to 37-36. Finley made a pair of 3-pointers and Duncan converted a three-point play that was keyed by Finley's assist.

The Spurs took their first lead since the opening 2 minutes of the game when Parker made a pull-up jumper from 17 feet with 4:02 left, but they trailed by two at halftime.

Notes: Bell returned after spending Saturday's loss to Detroit on the inactive list with right knee soreness. He made a 3-pointer from the corner with 21 seconds left in the second quarter that allowed the Bucks to take a 51-49 halftime lead, and he finished 4-of-6 for nine points in 26 minutes. ... Parker picked up his third technical foul in the last five games. ... This was Milwaukee's first road game in 11 days, and the Bucks play at Houston on Wednesday before getting four of the next five at home. ... Former Spurs C Francisco Elson did not come off the bench for Milwaukee. ... Mason hit his first field-goal try of the game after going 0-for-4 Saturday against Memphis, making it his first points since he hit the 3-pointer from the corner at the buzzer to beat Phoenix on Christmas.

    Postgame Quotes:

    Skiles
    BUCKS HEAD COACH SCOTT SKILES:

On being happy with the great start...
"Yeah I thought both halves and also the start of the quarters we were good. Whenever our plays stopped, we had to get it going again. We did a nice job of moving the ball again and tonight we made some shots.”

On the Spurs comeback in the fourth quarter...
"No, they were getting up, getting into us, being aggressive knocking in some balls and lay-ups as we were a little concerned from the bench of how were going to respond to that, but we took a time-out, regrouped, we were able to move the ball around as Ridnour hit a big three, and Charlie guarded a big shot as we were able to make big enough plays to retake the lead and hold them off.”

On the biggest thing about tonight‘s game for them...
"That we were able to get after not being able to inbound the ball with nine seconds to go in the game, but we played tonight like we‘ve been playing before. We played hard, we played with a lot of energy and even though they shot in the high 40’s, our defense was pretty scrappy as we had another low-turnover game as we did a lot of things well out there tonight.”

On how big of a win this is and if possibly the biggest for the Bucks this season...
“I don‘t know, I don‘t get to caught up into that, I feel it‘s only a big win if we do something again tomorrow night. It‘s a road win, we‘re happy to have it, [Spurs] are a great team as we have a lot of respect for them, it went down to the wire and we got a big win. Now we go play another Texas team that‘s good also.”

    Bogut
    BUCKS CENTER ANDREW BOGUT:

    On the win tonight...
"To come in here and win against one of the best teams in the NBA is a great boost to our confidence, and hopefully we can take that confidence to our game tomorrow.”

    On what stood out tonight...
"I think everything, obviously our defense was great, they shot a high percentage but we finally got out of our shooting slump and shot the ball well. We made some easy buckets in the fourth quarter as I thought we out-rebounded them well.”

On the last possession of the game...
"Well, he hit a couple elbow earlier on, midway into the fourth, so when he came down during that possession I knew I had to help as they didn‘t have a timeout left. So I tried to run him down and make sure he didn’t get that jumper and my teammates were right behind me as when he came by they got a piece of the ball which caused him to miss the lay-up ”

    Redd
    BUCKS GUARD MICHAEL REDD:

On the Spurs run in the fourth quarter…
"We just played poised, we knew they were going to make a run and defensively we did a good job of executing down the stretch. We made some easy dunks and lay-ups and that was almost the difference for us.”

    On the last possession…
"Yeah, we persevered and made the stop when we had to. Charlie did a great job tonight and it‘s just a great win for us tonight as for some reason we match-up well with San Antonio.”

    On Redd‘s performance tonight…
"It was definitely tough, especially anytime you play the Spurs. I was grateful for the points that came my way and the stop at the end. ”
