    Bucks beat Grizzlies in OT

    AP

MEMPHIS, Tenn.(AP) Ramon Sessions had 20 points, including a pair of free throws that put Milwaukee ahead with 42.6 seconds left in overtime, and the Bucks held on to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 101-96 on Friday night.

Sessions' free throws came after Hakim Warrick appeared to block his layup only to be called for a foul, sending Memphis coach Marc Iavaroni screaming down the sideline about the call. The free throws gave the Bucks a 95-94 lead, and Milwaukee held on, sending Memphis to its fourth straight loss.

Richard Jefferson led Milwaukee with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Luc Richard Mbah a Moute had 19 points and 17 rebounds, career highs in both categories for the rookie out of UCLA. Luke Ridnour scored 14 points, including four free throws after Sessions gave the Bucks the lead. Andrew Bogut had 12 points and 15 rebounds before fouling out with 57.6 seconds left in overtime.

O.J. Mayo led Memphis with 25 points, while Rudy Gay finished with 24. Marc Gasol scored 18 points for the Grizzlies.

Sessions' 3-pointer with 9.4 seconds left in regulation tied it at 87. Sessions missed a desperation shot as the horn sounded to send the game into overtime.

The Bucks again were without leading scorer Michael Redd (ankle).

Milwaukee outhustled Memphis, particularly on the glass, outrebounding Memphis 62-36, including 23 on the offensive end. That led to the Bucks holding a 28-12 advantage in second-chance points.

Neither team shot well, Memphis hitting 40 percent for the game, while Milwaukee shot 39.

Memphis let a 16-point first-half lead evaporate in the third period as the Bucks held the Grizzlies to only 15 points on 6-of-20 from the field in the quarter. That allowed Milwaukee to tie the game and, in the fourth quarter, Mbah a Moute took over inside, scoring 11 points in the fourth, and the Bucks continued their domination on the offensive board.

The Bucks were up 82-76 with 3:50 left in regulation, but Memphis put together an 11-2 run, Gay leading the charge. That gave Memphis an 87-84 lead before Sessions tying basket with 9.4 left in regulation.

Both teams worked the ball inside to their centers at the start. Bogut was taking feeds deep in the post, while Gasol was getting fouled going to the basket, consequently getting his early points from the line. That was good because neither team was shooting well from outside. The Bucks missed all seven of their shots from outside the arc in the first half.

Memphis took a 49-37 lead into halftime, Mayo leading the way with 15 points, while Gasol had recorded 14 at the half, missing only one of his five shots.

Jefferson had nine points for the Bucks, but was 3-of-10 from the field.

Jefferson would try to take over the Bucks' offense to open the second half, and kept Milwaukee close until the rest of the Bucks came along. Milwaukee whittled away at the Memphis double-digit advantage, cutting it to 62-58 on Joe Alexander's layup. Memphis was victimized by turnovers, poor-shooting and even a missed dunk. Add the Bucks offensive rebounding, and Memphis was letting its lead slip away.

Jefferson had 10 in the quarter and Sessions' jumper with 2 seconds left in the third, tied the game at 64 heading into the fourth.

Notes: Redd missed his sixth game with the ankle sprain. Bucks F Charlie Villanueva also sat out with a left hamstring strain. ... Austin Croshere made his first appearance for Milwaukee this season, entering the game in the second quarter. Croshere was claimed off waivers before the start of the season.

    Postgame Quotes:

    Skiles
    BUCKS HEAD COACH SCOTT SKILES:

    On the win...
“We became very aggressive. We started getting after them. In the first half, our inability to make an open shot affected us mentally. We felt very fortunate at halftime to be down what we were. It was another hard fought win, a professional win. The guys fought hard for it and we were able to come in and steal one.”

    On rallying to win...
“Our execution at the end (of regulation) was not very good to say the least. We kind of stumbled around and looked really tired, and rightfully so. Somehow, we had big performances from a lot of guys and were able to find a way to win.”

    On the rookies...
“Luc (Mbah a Moute) was outstanding. Pretty soon we should stop being surprised by anything he does. He is clearly a good player and able to play at this high level. He works hard. It’s nice to see people like that get rewarded. Joe (Alexander) was good too in his limited minutes. I was not able to get him as many minutes as I had hoped. He was a part of that unit that was out there when we were playing well.”

    Mbah A Moute
BUCKS FORWARD LUC RICHARD MBAH A MOUTE:

    On the win...
“We came out of the locker room in the second half and we didn’t want to lose. We felt like we had a great opportunity to win and we just didn’t play well in the first half. To come back and turn it on. I think we did a great job. We had great energy, Ramon especially.”

    On the team’s rebounding...
“I always try to attack the glass. Tonight it was just being in the right place at the right time and I took advantage of it.”

    Bogut
    BUCKS CENTER ANDREW BOGUT:

    On the victory...
“It was a pretty gutsy effort. Obviously things weren’t going our way early in the game. They came out and started hitting shots. We couldn’t get any rhythm defensively and offensively we were terrible in the first half. Coach (Skiles) said if we could go out in the second half and turn it around, and shoot like they did we will be in for a chance. Mbah a Moute comes in and gets 17 boards and (Ramon) Sessions hits a big three for us. Our young guys are stepping up for us, which is a great thing to be part of, with the Milwaukee Bucks.”

On team’s strong defensive second half...
It’s not something we want to get in the habit of doing. All of the sudden we get down by 10, then we are up by 10. We want to keep the game neck and neck and then maybe blow it out. We can’t give teams a ten-point lead every game. That’s something we have to work on as a group. We are not good at that. We do not have that killer instinct as of yet. Being down 10 or 15 last season, you didn’t always know where it was going to go. We are going to fight to the final siren.”

    On Ramon Sessions’ three...
“It’s a big shot. He hasn’t shot many threes in his career. He took a good shot and it went in. If It wasn’t for that shot, we wouldn’t be here laughing in the locker room right now. We would probably be down after a tough loss. If it wasn’t for that shot, we don’t go to overtime.”
